Smelly Goodness

I have been using Young Living Essential Oils since the mid-90's. I love these oils. Pure essential oils contain chemical compounds that have an affect on diseases such as cancer, viruses, mold, bacteria and a host of applications. Here are some of the more common oils & applications:

Lavendar - I use this oil to heal sunburns or any type of burn.
Peppermint - Great for headaches and tummy aches, very cooling. It's lovely in a water bottle for drinking and for spritzing on hot summer days.
Peace & Calming - This is a delightful blend of citrus oils that has been my favorite for years.
RutaVaLa - a new oil blend including a new oil from Ecuador. This oil helps me sleep soundly through the night.
Aroma Siez - massage into sore muscles and the next day the aches and pains are greatly improved.

People who are not used to Essential Oils judge the oils by their smell. I pick an essential oil based on the chemical compounds and their uses. There are several oils that could be used for the same purpose, so if the first oil doesn't work, I move on. For example, there are several oils that could be used for skin rash or fungus. I would start with Lavendar - always great on skin - then move to spikenard, maybe the two together.

Four Freedom Gratitude Quilts

One of my hobbies is Quilting. I'm new at this and have enjoyed mostly every minute of it. I have sewn about 20 quilts for a volunteer organization called Operation: Quiet Comfort. I found them based on a recommendation of a friend and became involved with their activities. I knew I wanted to do something to support our men and women serving overseas and it has taken form in sewing. They have given so much to us and this is a small token in return. I am very appreciative of the freedoms our military men and women have defended since the beginning of our country.

The Four Freedom Gratitude Quilt is based on a design by Lori Pate, founder of Operation: Quiet Comfort. It's very simple in its design and it's all about the messages. 100% cotton blue jeans are collected and laundered. These jeans are cut into 6" squares and each square is signed by a concerned & loving citizen expressing Thanks and Appreciation for the sacrifices the military member recipient. Each of these squares are sewn into a quilt and shipped overseas to a Combat Support Hospital and given to a wounded soldier, sailor, marine or airman.

These denim quilts were inspired by Franklin D. Roosevelt's address to the 77th Congress on January 6, 1941 -The Four Freedoms.
Freedom of Speech and Expression
Freedom of Worship
Freedom from Want
Freedom from Fear

My thoughts and prayers are with those who are currently serving overseas and those who have returned home, also with their friends and families who help make this nation great.
